Marisa Gierlich
Executive Director
Marisa joined Access Mammoth in 2023, drawn to the organization by a long-standing admiration for founder Kathy Copeland’s boundless energy and vision. After a career shift into the nonprofit world, returning to Mammoth and stepping into this role felt like the perfect alignment of purpose and passion.
What drives Marisa in her work is simple: it’s the people. She’s committed to building a lasting, healthy organization—one that nurtures a positive work culture, creates room for personal growth, and pushes forward a more accessible Mammoth Lakes and Eastern Sierra. Above all, she believes everyone should have the chance to experience the joy and thrill of mountain sports.
Before joining Access Mammoth, Marisa spent the early part of her professional life on the road—as a cycling guide for Backroads and an author for Lonely Planet. She’s also a dedicated home cook and holds a Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) credential.
Her favorite Access Mammoth moments happen year-round: from the daily winter lessons where camaraderie and confidence grow on the snow, to summer camps where shared adventures—like mountain biking and paddling—spark life-changing connections.
Marisa is a proud graduate of UC Berkeley (Go Bears!) and an avid reader, though picking a single favorite author feels impossible. If she had to name a few, Hermann Hesse, Abraham Verghese, and Huston Smith top the list.
